The interface needs a revamp. This current one is not pretty and does not work nicely for me.
Also, several presets do not result in such a good quality when compared to Handbrake.
In the end Permute does not offer anything more than Handbrake, which is free and creates better quality.

Permute is a pale shadow of ffWorks, which has many more capabilities. Also, the ffWorks staff is extremely responsive.

I wonder why the developer chose such an interface. Horrible to work with and look at. Everything has translucency which makes it difficult to read. Even when you turn off the translucency, it remains very unclear.
As for the end quality, it leaves much to be desired for most presets. For example, the HEVC preset gives overly large files of mediocre quality. While the main purpose of HEVC is to provide high quality with small files sizes. Maybe because the default bitrates are the same for all video codecs? I also found errors when converting AAC files. You can hear random peaks/crackles sometimes which is annoying.
Conclusion: It is strange that the developer chose this kind of interface. It is counter-productive, frustrating and on top of that the end results are not very good either.
There are much better alternatives on the market! For example Roxio converter is a whole lot better.

This really has a very unclear GUI. It's just click and see if it's what you expect. The icons are not only unclear but way too small.
Results are mediocre and Handbreak does a whole lot better (and for free). I really can't recommend this app.
